Residents of real estate in Adelaide will be happy to hear that the Victoria Square project continues on schedule, and the area will be ready to welcome the Tour Down Under in 2014.
Those who own property in North Adelaide can look forward to Victoria Square becoming a focal point of the CBD. Once completed, locals can enjoy a large lawned events space, promenade, renovated lighting for safety, an exciting new water feature and beautiful garden beds.
There will also be more trees planted in the Square, extra public toilets, drinking fountains, bike racks and “plug and play” facilities to support pop-up booths during events and festivals.
Most of the construction will be completed by the end of 2013, with the Three Rivers Fountain being remodelled and installed during the beginning of 2014.
Though the current traffic restrictions may be a bother, visitors and residents can look forward to an amphitheatre-shaped event space holding up to 5,000 people and improvements to the roadway to enable it to be changed into a provisional plaza for parades and festivals, as well as bicycle lanes and pedestrian pathways.
Adelaide City Council has been planning some exciting events once the renovations to Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga are complete. Making the space a more lively, people-focused place will also serve to draw more visitors to the area.
