What better way to spend a weekend afternoon then picking your own olives? Adelaide City Council allows members of the public to apply to collect olives from trees occupying Park Lands, all for free!
Couples or families who own property in North Adelaide can easily register by filling out an online application form. Once you have registered, the Council will send you a confirmation email. It is important to bring a print-out of this email along when you go olive picking. The only areas off limits are fenced spaces within Bonython and Tulya Wodli Park, and trees growing inside garden beds.
In addition to being incredibly delicious, olives help control blood pressure, aid digestion and are a good source of fibre. They are also very versatile and make a great addition to pizzas, salads, or cheese platters.
Be careful to avoid damaging these precious trees – climbing them is prohibited. It’s also good practice to clean up any litter from the area, including branches, twigs and leaves that may shake loose while picking.
Residents with property in Adelaide should definitely take advantage of this amazing opportunity to stock up their pantry with plenty of these savoury, healthy fruits.
