Anyone who has considered buying real estate in Adelaide will already know all about the wonderful park spaces available in the heart of the city.
Now, following the success of the renovated Adelaide Oval in attracting people to football in North Adelaide, the SA Government is going to remodel many of these green areas to further attract people to the area.
Stephen Mullighan, transport and infrastructure minister for SA, says the unique parklands space will have more improved public facilities.
"As the main stadium works are now complete and the football season is coming to an end, we can focus on improving the areas surrounding Adelaide Oval and making them more usable
and attractive for the community and visitors to the city to enjoy," he added in a statement.
Mr Mullighan stated that Creswell Gardens received significant works earlier in the year, which improved pedestrian access to the hub that is the Adelaide Oval.
What's being revitalised?
There are $9 million of works to be undertaken for the area surrounding the Adelaide Oval, proposed by the Adelaide City Council and Stadium Management Authority. These include the following changes:
– Upgrades to statues, memorials, landscaping and drainage in the Pennington Gardens.
– Better connection of pedestrian walkways and cycle paths throughout North Adelaide.
– Landscaping and paving at Fig Tree Plaza.
– Lighting to be improved, in line with Australian Standards.
– Widespread planting of trees to keep up the green character of the parklands.
These works are to be completed by mid-2015, so the Adelaide Oval can take part in the Cricket World Cup without disruption.
