Adelaide has been named number nine on Lonely Planet’s 2014 Top Ten Cities around the world, ranked alongside popular destinations including Paris, Shanghai and Vancouver.
The current list is the ninth annual collection of city recommendations and the first time Adelaide has made the cut.
Lonely Planet’s 2014 Best in Travel guide highlights Adelaide’s cultural atmosphere, and residents of property in North Adelaide may not be surprised as the area receives specific mention thanks to the historic character and surrounding parklands.
The list describes Adelaide as “effortlessly chic – and like a perfectly cellared red, it’s ready to be uncorked and sampled.”
Also mentioned was the cultural ‘tour de force’ regularly hosted by Adelaide, with the Adelaide Festival, the Fringe Festival and WOMADelaide providing major boosts to tourism each year.
Cities were nominated by staff, authors and a worldwide community of bloggers and Twitter users. The recommendations are then refined by a panel of in-house travel experts, based on scores of topicality, excitement and ‘X-factor’.
The endorsement is expected to provide a major boost for the local tourism industry, and may have a positive impact on the demand for real estate in Adelaide, as visitors fall for the city’s charm and decide to stay on.
