After 40 years of being sister cities with Adelaide, it is time for Georgetown, Penang, to celebrate. To commemorate the occasion, performances of Die Fledermaus (The Revenge of the Bat) by Joann Strauss, staged by Co-Opera, will be conducted throughout Malaysia.
Owners of real estate in Adelaide will likely feel proud of such a long-standing, incredible alliance between their home and Georgetown.
Financial support for the opera comes from the Adelaide City Council in conjunction with the Tourism Authority of the Penang State Government. The transport of sets and costumes is already underway, with opening night on September 28th in Georgetown.
Truly a joint effort, the show combines the talent of 11 players from the Penang Philharmonic Orchestra with the Co-Opera’s orchestral ensemble. Members of the Co-Opera are thrilled at the opportunity to perform alongside Penang’s musicians.
The 10-day Malaysian tour will not only be a fabulous way to celebrate four decades of sister city-ship, but will also serve to tighten the bond between Adelaide and Penang.
Residents who own property in Norwood, as well as Adelaide’s other suburbs, will also have the chance to celebrate the ongoing partnership with Georgetown when Die Fledermaus returns to Adelaide on Saturday, October 26th.
